The College's Information Technology department provides on-site support for hardware and software issues in College computer labs, classrooms, and offices; maintains a high-speed local area network and wireless network; provides technical support and troubleshooting; and upgrades and replaces equipment on a regular basis. Although there are other brands with similar specifications, the Statler College IT support team has identified potential issues with technologies like virtualization, which could interfere with the proper functioning of VMs or software environments, even if the features appear to be compatible. For the best chance of receiving support for personally owned student devices and Engineering software, it is recommended that students have the following:
Apple’s macOS and iOS devices, such as Macs, Macbooks, and iPads, do not meet the necessary requirements for Statler College academic programs due to software compatibility, OS requirements, or virtualization performance.
The Statler College IT office recommends considering extended warranties to protect student's devices. While the IT team is readily available to assist with some software-related issues, hardware support depends upon the coverage provided by device warranties through the manufacturer or vendor.
